Surprise perk of hormone therapy
Hormone replacement therapy, which many women turn to during menopause, may offer more than relief from hot flashes, say researchers in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. Their animal study found that estrogen replacement protected nerve cells that become damaged with Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers say they believe women would get the same benefit, which is important since two-thirds of Alzheimer’s patients are women, and some experts suspect that the loss of estrogen might be one of the factors leading to a decline in thinking skills.
