In exactly the right place
“The Saturday before Easter, I took my 6-yearold grandson, Ben, to the park. As I was driving us home later that afternoon, Ben noticed kids on an Easter egg hunt at a church and begged me to let him join in. I groaned since I was starting to feel tired, and was about to suggest we go home to watch a movie. But just then, something prodded me to turn into the parking lot. It was as if my car had a mind of its own.
“We were at the hunt for a few minutes, when a mother started shouting that her toddler was choking. Being a retired nurse, I quickly jumped in and performed the Heimlich maneuver until a piece of candy popped out of the boy’s mouth.
“‘Thank God you were here,’ his tearful mom blurted, hugging me. ‘You saved my son’s life.’
“I flashed back to how I ended up there and felt a bigger power at work. ‘Thank God, indeed,’ I echoed.”
