Fast way to stay safe from COVID

Killing COVID-19 germs in your nasal passages before they make you sick may be just a spray away. A new study in JAMA Network found that an over-thecounter nasal solution with povidone-iodine killed COVID-19 virus cells in the lab within 15 seconds. Povidone-iodine (sold in drugstores) is typically used to kill germs on patients before surgery. Lead researcher Samantha Frank, M.D., advises swabbing an OTC solution of .5 to 1.25% povidone-iodine inside the nose a few times daily, particularly after being in situations where physical distancing was not possible.
