New treatment reduces arthritis pain by 85%
In a study of osteoarthritis sufferers presented to the Radiological Society of North America, a technique called “cooled radiofrequency ablation” led to an 85% and 70% reduction in shoulder and hip pain, respectively. Targeting sensory nerves around joints, the procedure “stuns” them with a painless low-grade current, notes study author Felix M. Gonzalez, M.D., slowing the transmission of pain to the brain.
