Fiber-rich foods foster a sunny outlook
That hearty oatmeal you enjoyed for breakfast can help keep you happy, report researchers in the journal Menopause. Their study of more than 5,800 women found that those who were premenopausal who ate approximately 28 grams of fiber daily were less likely to have symptoms of depression than those who ate less of the nutrient. The investigators explain that fiber feeds the healthy gut microbes responsible for the production of 95% of the body’s feel-good chemical serotonin. To get the study-proven amount of fiber, enjoy 1 cup of oats and 1 cup of any beans daily.
