Coffee trick boosts effects
To stay perky with caffeinated beverages during the week, researchers from Germany suggest switching to decaf on weekends. Participants in their study drank either caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee after getting 5 hours of sleep. For the first four days, those drinking caffeine were more alert and had quicker reaction times than those sipping decaf, but on day five, there was no difference between the groups. The reason? Our body quickly adapts to caffeine, so the stimulant has less effect the more consistently we drink it. The easy reset: Switch to decaf on weekends or whenever you don’t need a caffeine boost.
