First For Women

“I earn up to $4,000 a month posting recipe videos on YouTube!”

“I have a big Italian family, and I’ve always loved cooking Sunday dinners with my mom and grandmother. I was looking for a way to preserve my favorite recipes, so about 11 years ago, my husband started shooting videos of me cooking, then posted them on YouTube (YouTube. com/CookingWithSugarTV).

“The first few videos weren’t that great, but they got better with time. I explain how to make the recipes, and sometimes my family joins me in the videos, like the one about how to make homemade Italian lasagna Bolognese—my family is dancing around the kitchen and my uncle is playing the accordion!

“Early on, Betty Crocker asked me to blog for them, so that drove traffic to my channel. I also contributed recipes to local newspapers, magazines and digital outlets to spread the word. It started out as a fun hobby, but as I gained followers (I now have 154,000 subscribers), I decided to monetize the channel with ads.

“I spend about 2 to 4 hours a week working on my channel and make passive income all year long from the ads YouTube places on my videos.

But my most popular videos involve holiday recipes, so revenue picks up and I’ve made up to $4,000 a month during the season—money that goes back into the business, toward holiday gifts and for family vacations.

“I love posting videos because people from all over the world tell me they like how simple and fun the recipes are, how they get their families around the table and how it makes them so happy. One woman recently told me my lasagna recipe saved her marriage!”
