ANNEMARIE AND REMBRANDT POORTER’S FIRST HOME—A GROUND-FLOOR APARTMENT—WAS so small that their son Tommy, now 9, spent two years sleeping in the cupboard under the stairs, like Harry Potter. “We were desperate for more space and were thinking of moving, because we didn’t have enough bedrooms for the children,” says Annemarie, who has three other children too. “Then the apartment above us came up for sale and we snapped it up.”
THE BRIGHT WHITE FLOORS, walls and sofa are softened by pops of blue and pink and a patterned rug. The geometric pattern on the rug brings interest to the floor. The metal-framed sofa came from Ikea.
