Paoli Bombing Question Answered

Flight Journal - - EDITORIAL - Todd J. Laney

To the letter writer Gerardo in the June 2018 issue asking about the bombing of Paoli, Italy, I think I have your answer. It was the 310th BG comprising the 379th, 380th, 381th, and 428th BS that bombed the railroad yards on July 24, 1943. I found this information at the 57thbombwing.com. Go to the 310th BG website and look at the USAAF chronology for that date, NASAF Western Mediterranean, “B-26s hit railroad yards at Paola.” My uncle served as a B-25 pilot with the 57th Bomb Wing. His tour was 1944–45, with 60 combat missions. I hope this information will help your brother with his book. I look forward to reading it when it is published. All good info, Todd. Thanks.—BD
