Stephen Coonts is a perennial New York Times best-selling author, whose writing career began in 1986 with his debut novel, Flight of the Intruder. The book is based on Coonts’s experience in two Vietnam War combat deployment­s as an A-6 Intruder pilot; in 1991, his novel was made into a movie. Coonts has had many other careers, including taxi driver, police officer, and attorney. Today, he lives in Colorado, where he remains an active pilot. His next novel, The Russia Account, will be released in August.

Barrett Tillman has contribute­d nearly 200 articles to Flight Journal since its inaugural issue in 1996. As a teenager, he learned to fly in his native Oregon, and with his father, he restored and flew antique planes. The restoratio­n of the world’s only Douglas Dauntless led to his first book in 1976. Tillman has written more than 40 books and 750 articles, and received half a dozen awards for history and literature. He lives in Mesa, Arizona.
