Food & Wine
Why stories about what’s in your glass matter
We’re thrilled to share that Kwame Onwuachi, a 2019 F&W Best New Chef, will host a new event called The Family Reunion to celebrate diversity in hospitality. Food & Wine is teaming up with Onwuachi and Sheila Johnson’s Salamander Hotels & Resorts to produce the event, which will feature industry leaders like Carla Hall, Mashama Bailey, Nina Compton, and Carlton McCoy. The multiday celebration—with cooking demos, wine tastings, and panel discussions—will be held August 19–22 at Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Virginia, in the state’s picturesque wine country.
“I noticed a void in the industry, especially for the amplification of Black and brown voices and their contributions to the food industry,” said Onwuachi, who recently joined F&W as executive producer in a new kind of editorial-chef partnership. “I always pictured an event that was centered around them.”
Family Reunion tickets go on sale in April at salamander hotels.com/family reunion, with a portion of the proceeds being used to create a mentorship and scholarship program that fosters diversity in the hospitality industry. The event will adhere to COVID-19 health and safety measures in conjunction with CDC and state guidelines.
