Secrets to Success

Everyone wants to be an influencer, but few people master the game. “You’re different, you’re individual — so show that,” said fashion blogger Lindsi Lane Watts last week in Milan. “Everyone is eating food and drinking coffee and posting a mirror selfie. Get creative, brainstorm ideas, be proactive, have a voice and hustle.” Watts was on hand with fellow influencers Christie Ferrari and Marni Harvey for a panel discussion hosted by the Micam and Mipel trade shows in partnership with FN and WWD. The three leading ladies talked about their success stories and hot topics ranging from navigating Instagram’s intricacies to building strong brand relationships. “When you’re reaching out to brands, be cordial, and don’t be shy about doing things for free in the beginning,” Ferrari said. “Once they see that, they’ll be more likely to work with you. Focus on what your niche is.” For Harvey, accessibility is a key to success. “I love reaching out through Instagram,” she said. “It’s a powerful tool, and we should utilize it as much as we can.”
