pay to be good: Amid double-digit revenue growth, Microsoft topped our second annual Just 100 ranking of America’s best corporate citizens (December 31). Of the 890 public companies evaluated by Forbes’ project partner, Just Capital, the venerable tech giant was in the top 5 for positive environmental impact and worker and customer treatment. CEO Satya Nadella’s team was also fifth for leadership, and our cover star drew hosannas. “@SatyaNadella’s leadership is transforming @Microsoft— and his impact is beyond clear,” tweeted Aaron Skonnard, CEO of online-education purveyor Pluralsight. “Great to see his efforts recognized.” Such impact is well-timed: Our Alex Konrad noted that infighting and sluggish revenue preceded Nadella’s stint at the top, which began in 2014. He’d be wise to stay the course, tweeted Quartz deputy tech editor Mike Murphy: “He’ll need to avoid the hubris of past eras of [Microsoft] success to make this a stable, long-term turnaround.”
