When it comes to family-run food companies, few rival the long-term success of J.M. Smucker. The 122-yearold ohio company got its start making cider and apple butter from apples said to be cultivated by Johnny appleseed himself. best known for fruit spread, smucker also produces peanut butter, cookies, juices and many other grocery items. smucker earns 15% of its revenue abroad, while pet food (30%), coffee (28%) and consumer goods (27%) are sold domestically. share prices cratered at the end of 2018, and i believe this is an excellent opportunity to buy in. smucker continues to roll out popular, healthier foods and is expanding in pet food. shares have a P/e ratio of 12, compared with 3-, 5- and 10-year averages of better than 18.
