In September 2018, Dolby donated $20 million to UC San Francisco to establish the Dolby Family Center for Mood Disorders. She has also supported the Academy Foundation to fund the construction of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. A German native, she met her late husband, Ray, in 1962 while studying in a summer language program in the U.K. Three years later he founded the audio-equipment maker Dolby Laboratories that made them rich.
