As an owner of many rent-stabilized apartments in New
York City, LeFrak took a hit in June when lawmakers in Albany passed a bill making it harder for certain landlords to raise rents. Richard, who has been CEO of the LeFrak Organization since 2003, took over from his late father, Sam, who built thousands of rent-regulated apartments in Brooklyn and Queens and acquired land across the Hudson River in Jersey City. Now he is grooming his sons Harrison and James to take over.
