A devout Catholic, Langone donated $100,000 to restoratio­n efforts at Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, which was severely damaged by fire in April. Since pledging $100 million to the NYU School of Medicine in August 2018 to help students attend tuition-free, the percentage of minority applicants has more than doubled, the school said. As an investment banker he helped take many companies public, including Home Depot, a deal that eventually catapulted him into the billionair­e ranks.
