This summer, Gangwal got into a public spat with Rahul Bhatia, his cofounder at IndiGo, India’s largest airline; each man owns more than a third of the budget airline. In July, Gangwal complained to India’s stock market regulator about certain business deals between IndiGo and Bhatia’s other companies. Bhatia, his partner for 15 years, responded that an independen­t review found “no substantiv­e irregulari­ties.” Gangwal started his airline career with United Airlines in 1984 and went on to become CEO of US Airways Group.
