In 1964, at 26, he started Ryan Insurance, then merged it with another company in 1982 to create AON, one of the largest insurance firms in the world. He left in 2008 after 41 years as CEO, and founded wholesale brokerage and specialty insurance firm Ryan Specialty Group two years later. This year he was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame.
