Friday the 13th brought good fortune to Venrock’s Roberts in September when two of his portfolio companies, Cloudflare and 10x Genomics, rang the bell at different stock exchanges. The health-care investor likes to start small: “I’d rather give teams the opportunity to make progress and raise money at higher prices than stuffing all that money in upfront.”
