Making His Mark

Shortly after cofounding FirstMark Capital in 2008 amid recession, Heitzmann met two young founders at an NYU business-plan contest who foresaw a change from a text-based world to an imagebased one. Their idea became Pinterest, and Heitzmann, the lead seed investor, eventually enjoyed a reported 1,900x return multiple upon its IPO.
