MAX LEVCHIN
Affirm • $2.2 billion
In 1999, eight years after immigrating to the United States from Ukraine, Levchin cofounded PayPal. He later launched a media-sharing startup and fertilitytracking app, but he didn’t reach billionaire status until Affirm, his pay-later fintech, took off thanks to Covid and Affirm’s financing of Peloton bikes, a pandemic must-have. When it went public in January, its stock doubled on the first day of trading, propelling its value north of $20 billion.
