NEWSMAKER: The 90-year-old phar­ma­cist is fi­nally hang­ing up his white lab coat. In Oc­to­ber he agreed to sell his Jean Coutu Group—which op­er­ates more than 400 phar­ma­cies in Que­bec, New Brunswick and On­tario—to Cana­dian gro­cery chain Metro for about $3.6 bil­lion in cash and stock. Coutu, who founded the busi­ness with a sin­gle Mon­treal lo­ca­tion in 1969, will pocket nearly $2 bil­lion.
