kuri­wada de­buts on our list fol­low­ing the de­cem­ber ipo of sG hold­ings, par­ent of Ja­panese pack­age de­liv­ery ser­vice sagawa ex­press. kuri­wada, who has only a high school diploma, chairs the com­pany and owns an 18% stake. his late fa­ther, kiyoshi sagawa, founded the com­pany in 1957. Back in the 1990s the com­pany was the fo­cus of a big scan­dal: An ex­ec­u­tive at the Tokyo af­fil­i­ate of sagawa ex­press was con­victed of mak­ing pay­offs to politi­cians. sagawa, a bil­lion­aire in 1992, re­signed as chair­man that year; nei­ther he nor kuri­wada was charged.
