THIS YEAR, A record 204 American billionaires didn’t have sufficient wealth to crack The Forbes 400. Those who failed to make the $2.1 billion cut include a sports legend (Michael Jordan, $1.7 billion), private-equity giants who have been 400 regulars (Oaktree Capital’s Bruce Karsh and Howard Marks, $2 billion each) and new billionaires (Paycom Software’s CEO, Chad Richison, $1.3 billion).
