Forbes - - PROMOTION -

‘‘centene is a mission-driven company with a shared commitment to delivering highquality care to our members,” says Wade rakes, chief diversity and inclusion officer. as the nation’s largest healthcare provider for medicare, medicaid, military families and the Health insurance marketplace, centene — 41,200 employees throughout 31 states — cares for more than 12.8 million members in communities surrounding their locally organized subsidiaries.

“We’ve had a diverse workforce since our inception. We employ the top talent in our field, with a diverse array of backgrounds, skills and abilities,” reports rakes. not surprisingly, centene’s workforce — from the board and the executive team to the newest recruit — is diverse and inclusive. “minorities make up over 50% of our workforce, and more than 70% of our managers are women,” says rakes.

establishing five employee inclusion groups has been a highlight of 2018. “We have 3,500 employees in those groups,” says rakes, “advancing their professional and personal development, championing innovative products and services, and sustaining the company’s recruitment and retention successes.”

centene’s ceo, michael neidorff, chairs centene’s executive diversity and inclusion council and takes the diverse perspectives of the five employee inclusion groups under close consideration. He also serves as the chairman of the national urban league. “michael is without a doubt the greatest champion of diversity and inclusion at centene and in the global business community,” says rakes. “this philosophy is critical to the success of our company.”

centene is part of the s&P 500 index, ranked #61 on the 2018 fortune 500 list, and ranked #19 on the 2017 fortune change the World list. centene has also been recognized by diversity, inc., disability equality index, and Human rights campaign as a best or noteworthy company to work for in 2018.

concludes rakes: “from a results perspective, we have seen that the work that we are doing is being recognized by the best in the industry. the diverse ideas, experiences and cultures of our employees drive our mission to deliver a full spectrum of high-quality healthcare solutions.”
