Two years ago, when put salesforce founder and Ceo Marc benioff on our cover, san francisco’s salesforce Tower, now the city’s tallest structure, was only half-built. it was finished this year, but benioff—whose net worth has jumped 50% since our profile, to $6.1 billion—has focused on more street-level concerns. He recently took to Twitter to voice his distress over homelessness in san francisco, which he believes the city’s tech giants must help solve. He supported Proposition C, a ballot measure to tax large businesses to fund homeless services, and personally donated $1 million to efforts to pass it. “as sf’s largest employer we recognize we are part of the solution,” he tweeted, prompting a brief social-media skirmish with Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, who opposed Prop C. benioff gives often to progressive causes and will likely continue to be vocal on issues both local and national—but he “will never run” for office, he told us in october. still, might there be a benioff 2020 boomlet? stranger things have happened.
