It’s no simple concept, as these books show. In some ways they brim with contrast, various ones touting “the answer” is diet or exercise or relationships. One asserts that all animal-based food sources are dangerous while another touts the value of cooking with animal fats. What these books all have in common, it seems, is the imperative need to veer from convention, from common knowledge, in pursuit of something better. In aiming for wholeness, each of these books is like a circle in a Venn diagram, and each individual reader can glean from the books’ wisdom and arrange the circles of the diagram into an overlapping space that fits their needs and balances their life.
