Jacob Tupper was busy last weekend playing and winning at disc golf. I noticed his T-shirt and it looked familiar. Release the Beast? Oooh, that is where I have seen that before, Jacob was a Fort Bragg High School wrestler, and on Feb. 6, 2020, there is a benefit for their wrestling program. Where? David’s Deli, of course, Kira’s and Mike’s very fine son, James, was also in the program while attending Fort BraggHigh. David’s Deli will have a benefit dinner with proceeds going to support the wrestling program. Now, lest you think that wrestling is just for boys, oh no. Naturally, the girls couldn’t stand that they might be left out of something and so, yes, the girls just naturally had to wrestle too. I mean, goodness, what will be next?
Julie at 19, works at David’s Deli and the sticker on her hot rod Honda reminds you as she passes that indeed, “you were just passed by a girl.” Attitude? You betcha she has an attitude, a good attitude, and I amwilling to bet some of that started when she took up wrestling at Fort Bragg High. Older now, and confident in herself, she is a coach for other girls to learn those insidious wrestling moves to sweep I bet, an unsuspecting guy off his feet. I want to be clear, Julie is a sweet and demure girl, and you might not think of her as a trailblazer, but she was one of just a few girls to go out for wrestling. Now she is coaching and encouraging other girls to become involved, and now there are many more girls in Fort BraggHigh wrestling. If you think empowering young men and women is important, come support them and buy dinner at David’s Deli Feb. 6, and put your money where your heart is. The young people involved in the wrestling program at Fort Bragg High have been some of the very best people I have met. I, for one, fully support the Fort Bragg High wrestling program!
