107 Years Ago Feb. 6, 1914

• A ferry is now in operation across the Navarro River and it’s taking the place of the former bridge which was carried out to sea by the recent storm until another structure can be built.

• The following passengers arrived from San Francisco Friday on the Brunswick: Mrs. Ruth Norton, Mrs. Maxfield E. Etrider, A. Baldes, R. Lindroman, Miss Margaret Case, Miss Rachel Werner, R. C. Greenough, P. Wordford, Mr. and Mrs. MacCracken.

• The following were successful in passing the teachers examinatio­ns held at Ukiah: Olga Wiltinen and Vivian Rodgers, of Fort Bragg; Herman Spurlock and John T. Feski, Margaret Lima, Usal; Alma E. Rupe of Willits.

• Union Lumber Company has been gradually overhaulin­g one of the respective saws being down at a time. The pony cut was the first to be looked after and was put in shape in a couple of weeks. Saturday morning, the north side started up in perfect order after a month’s shut down. Men with the plant for years state that they have never seen it run better. A month or six weeks will now be taken up in repairing the south side. On each occasion, the machinery of each side is taken to pieces and removed to the machine work shop where it is rightly overhauled.

77 Years Ago Jan. 30, 1944

• Mrs. Guthrie Collins departed for Chicago Wednesday to meet her husband who is in the Army and who is on a furlough for a month. Sgt. W. J. McLaughlin is a member of the Marines sentry dog detail supervisor­s to handling of both Marine and Coast Guard dogs at Tongue Point. Tongue Point station is in Astoria, Oregon.

• Sgt. Carl W. Sauer, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Sauer, of Fort Bragg, has been sent to officers training school, U. S. Army at Miami, Florida.

• James L. Snell, superinten­dent of the Fort Bragg schools, was recently honored by Phi Delta Kappa, a national men teachers honorary fraternity, when he was presented with a service key. Membership in the fraternity is limited to university graduates who receive scholastic honors and who are engaged in teaching. The service key is awarded to the members of the fraternity who have maintained membership for at least seven years and who have achieved position of membership in the schools. Supt. Snell was elected to the Stanford chapter of the fraternity and is at present a northern member of the Field Chapter of Sacramento.

55 Years Ago Feb. 10, 1966

• David Lotten, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lotten, of Fort Bragg, and a music student at San Francisco State College, has just completed a symphonic band tour of cities in northern California as part of his studies. He is a 1959 graduate of Fort Bragg High School.

• Planning a trip to Tucson, Ariz., is Pal (Mrs. Joseph) Lima. She will leave
