What’s up with Rotary Club

-

It’s no secret that for the past 20 years, the Rotary Club of Fort Bragg and Mendocino Coast Sports Foundation team up every January to put on what is (in our opinion) the best crab feed on the coast!

January after January, these two organizations join forces to raise money for local projects that they undergo to help our community in various ways.

Despite that we are in everchanging, unprecedented times, the Rotary Club of Fort Bragg and the Mendocino Coast Sports Foundation were determined to not let January go by without hosting our annual Crab Feed. However, with COVID-19, we knew it was going to look much different than years past; but we were up for the challenge.

We put our minds together and formulated a plan that would allow us to safely hold a drivethru Crab Feed to raise money for both organizations, give our community something to look forward and not break our tradition of the annual crab feed.

We want to say thank you! Thank you to every person that purchased tickets, and for those that wanted to purchase tickets but couldn’t — because we were sold out, days in advance.

It’s with great pleasure that we share that our drive-thru Crab

Feed of Jan. 30, was extremely successful, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our wonderful community members. We went through 755 pounds of crab and more than 20 gallons of clam chowder.

We would like to also extend a huge thank you to our sponsors. Without these wonderful businesses, we would not have been able to have had such a successful event. Thank you for stepping up and supporting our organizations in a huge way: Community First Credit Union, Caito Fisheries, Garden Ranch Real Estate, Silver’s at the Wharf, Edward Jones — Paul Sweigart, Rollin’ Dough Bakery, Sovereign, Sugar Coated Catering, Harvest Market and Fort Bragg Septic.

And let us tell you, it took more than just the Crab Feed Planning Committee to put it all together:

“We could not have pulled this off without the help and guidance of a few key entities in our community. Each and every person I had the pleasure of working with was friendly, knowledgeable and really felt as if they were in it with us,” said Club President and Crab Feed Chairwoman, Mindy Slaughter. “They wanted to help us have a successful event that was safe for all patrons during this time of pandemic.”

The club would like to thank the City of Fort Bragg (especially Crystal Munoz, Ian Sanderson and Tabatha Miller), The Fort Bragg Police Department (including Chief Naulty & CSO Beak), The Fort Bragg Fire Department and Chief Orsi, and the Mendocino County Environmental Department’s Katherine Gamble.

“Thank you for helping us find our way thru our very first drive-thru Crab Feed,” Slaughter said.
