Stablefords, Skins and the full Dietz

-

The Skins golfers — but not the Stableford competitors — were able to play their game last Wednesday, Feb. 3. Unfortunately, morning rain canceled out the Stableford group who play in the morning, but by afternoon the sky was blue and the Skins were on schedule.

This worked for Scott Dietz, a long time Stableford devotee, who was itching to play golf — and so he did with the Skins guys.

Scott not only played but he birdied holes 10 and 11 winning him two skins and racked up low putts for the nine holes netting him another skin. Kind of looks like those Stableford golfers are pretty talented, they stride right into the Skins game and walk off top winner.

Don Romelli shot a 38 winning a skin in the process, Wayne Salyards chipped in on the five par hole 13 to win a skin and Dave Coddington birdied hole 14 for the final skin. Jim Ehlers commented that the rest of the field including the three “jimigos,” which consists of himself, Jim Corsar and Jim Ellis — in the spirit of giving — gave and gave and gave.

Two days later, Friday, good weather returned and so did 12 Stableford hopefuls. Chuck Allegrini converted his hope to reality winning top individual honors scoring 39 Stableford points aided by his chip-in eagle on hole six. Chuck drew Rick Edwards as his partner to tie Jim Corsar and Scott Dietz for first place Stableford partners both teams totaling out at 71 points. I played that day and along with Scott Dietz got my full Dietz.

Getting a full Dietz

— no it’s not like a full Monty — is walking the course accepting no cart lifts, no jump-ins through the canyon. One foot after the other the whole 18, and you have earned your full Dietz.

Brooks Sheifer attained a half-full Dietz last week while achieving a first for himself. Brooks shot par on all the even number holes on the back nine first time ever for Brooks. Good nine Brooks, congratulations.

The late Jack Carlson’s clubs are now located in the Pro Shop for inspection and if you are interested, for auction. All proceeds are to be donated to the Mendocino and Fort Bragg High School Golf Teams. There is an auction bid sheet on the ProShop bulletin board where you can enter your bid.

Along with the clubs there is the bag, two boxes of golf balls and a living room practice putting device all included in the bid. There are also available for purchase, money going to the teams, three drivers and a three wood. The drivers and three wood are available to try on the range. Check with the Pro Shop.
