MENDOCINO, CA » The Mendocino Art Center exhibits the artwork of two abstract artists, Mark Eanes and Sara Post, from March 3 through April 3.

Mark Eanes’ exhibit, “Why This, Not That?” features his paintings and photography. “As a painter, I’ve always enjoyed looking at the world in all its richness and complexity, then giving expression to those glimpses,” Mark says. “However in recent years, I have turned to photography as well — to exercise and strengthen another muscle for seeing. To capture a specific moment in time that no one else sees, or will ever see, is rewarding beyond words. Whenever I travel with the camera, I feel alert, awake, and aware of all that is before me.”

Mark is a painter, printmaker, photographer, curator, and educator who has spent the last 25 years living and working in Benicia, California. Mark is currently an Associate Professor at California College of the Arts (CCA), where he has taught for over 30 years. He has shown his paintings throughout California, as well as nationally and internationally.

Sara Post’s “Airborne” is a showing of her textural abstractions, constructed with drawings, prints, papers, and paint, and layered visual narratives concerned with changing natural environments. “Life is complex — rife with underlying forces,” Sara explains. “A visual narrative must be read with a different kind of attention — one that sees into the nature of things. Because I believe both these things to be true, I tell what I know with materials rather than with words. We interact with mysteries far larger than ourselves. This work offers a small reminder of that and extends an invitation to each viewer to create a narrative from a personal perspective, imbuing the grand scale of life with individual meaning.”

Sara has worked in a variety of media since 1981, including ceramic sculpture, wall installations, and textile design as well as painting and drawing, with work widely represented in public and private collections. She lives in Davis, California, where she maintains a working and teaching studio, Art 26, in downtown Davis.

There will be a free Second Saturday Gallery Reception, March 12, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the opportunity to meet both Mark Eanes and Sara Post.
