MendoParks celebrates 31 years of Whale Festival activities

- Submitted

Every March we celebrate the breathtaking migration of gray whales along the Mendocino Coast. These beautiful creatures pass by our coastal community as they make one of the longest journeys of any mammal on the planet — all the way from Mexico to Alaska. Since 1992, MendoParks and California State

Parks have provided whale education at the festivals. We are pleased to share our 2022 schedule of activities, celebrating 31 years of whale education on the Mendocino Coast!

Complimentary guided whale walks at MacKerricher State Park, every Friday and Saturday in March: 11 am, 2 pm, and 4 pm. Join a California State Park Interpretive Specialist to learn about gray whales. This ADA-accessible tour will help you learn how to spot gray whales, their unique features, and why this animal is celebrated along our coast. The guided tour begins and ends at the Laguna Point parking lot. After the tour, your guide will be available for additional information and to interpret the gray whale skeleton located next to the MacKerricher visitor center. Each tour has a group limit of 12 and will be filled on a first-come, firstserved basis. All ages welcome.
