Pomo Landback Rally in Sacramento on Friday

- Submitted

Tribal Chairman Michael Hunter is hoping the rally will encourage state legislators to grant a moratorium before logging begins in the forest around mid-April. The Tribe calls for the Tribal comanagement of Jackson State Forest and for sacred sites within Jackson State forest to be honored and protected.

The effort to change the legislative mandate of JDSF has put a “people’s moratorium” on logging within the forest since last summer. However — the Coalition wants an official moratorium from the state, and they are calling to the public for help;

We need as many people to show up as possible to support the Pomo Tribes in our fight for land back on March 25th. Now is the time for legislators to begin the process of healing, reconciliation & giving land back, which will allow us to honor our ancient sacred sites & ancestors. Help us tell Sacramento legislators that we demand an immediate moratorium on logging, cultural and tribal sovereignty, unified ecosystem restoration, climate change mitigation, and environmentally sustainable economics. This forest represents the losses Pomo tribes have faced over the past 150 years and the state now has an opportunity to make it right. This is our chance to show state lawmakers that we need real legislative action now. Please join us in the Capitol on Friday. — Chairman Michael Hunter
