Garden Club’s 13th Annual “Sidewalk Gardens to Bragg About”

Any time from May 1 — May 20, please nominate a beautiful yard — your own or another’s — if it is in the Fort Bragg city limits, can be seen from the sidewalk, and is a pleasing-to-the-eye, well-kept space.

From May 23 — 28 Fort Bragg Garden Club members will judge the gardens based on visual appeal, plant variety and health, design, and maintenance. A new category on the score sheet this year is “environmentally friendly” when plants that are edible, native, pollinator-friendly, or drought-tolerant are in evidence. A gift certificate to a local nursery will be given to the first, second, and third place winners, and to the Fort Bragg Bee City USA’s Annual Pollinator Garden. Bernie Norvell will choose his favorite for the “Mayor’s Choice Award.”

If you have a yard to nominate, please provide the address. Send an email by May 20 to info@ fbgardenclub.com or call and leave a message or text (707)397-5824. More information can be found at www.fbgardenclub. com.

Writers of the Mendocino Coast Launches Borders Anthology

This year’s annual publication celebrates the work of over thirty WMC members. Seventeen of these authors will read short excerpts from their writings Sunday, May 15th at 3:00 p.m. “We have so many talented writers in our community, poets and prose writers alike,” said Editor Nona Smith. “This anthology gives readers the opportunity to sample the writing of people they know, local writers who saw this year’s theme as an opportunity to reminisce about preCovid travel experiences or explore other meanings of the word, such as the borders that exist between socioeconomic classes and the peri-normal world.”

This event is free and open to the public. To receive a Zoom link email writersmendocinocoast@ gmail.com.
