Community Foundation of Mendocino County Scholarship Program accepting applications

The Community Foundation of Mendocino County is accepting applications for the 2023 Scholarship Program. The program has grown significantly over the last few years, with Community Foundation donors meeting the demand for increased educational opportunities. The 2023 cycle includes over 40 scholarships, with offerings for every corner of the county. In 2022, the Community Foundation awarded 110 scholarships totaling $383,000.

Each of the Community Foundation scholarships have been crafted by a local resident. The donor selects the award’s criteria and preferences, often naming the scholarship in honor of a loved one. Endowing a scholarship provides a permanent way of honoring its namesake and fostering a legacy in the next generation.

In addition to traditional scholarships, the Community Foundation offers support for technical, trade, and vocational school students. Whether a student is seeking a vocational, two-year, or fouryear degree, the Community Foundation has options to sustain them on their educational journey.

McCarthy and Whitcomb Inland Performing Arts Scholarship Fund for seniors and graduates pursuing a career in the performing arts or design (sound, lighting, set, and costume).

MCHC Health Centers Linnea Hunter Scholarship Fund for the children and legal dependents of active Mendocino Community Health Clinic, Inc. employees.

Kai Logan Shepherd Scholarship Fund for students with baseball or wrestling experience who demonstrate grit, sportsmanship, perseverance, and hard work on and off the field/mat.

Kressa Jean Shepherd Scholarship Fund for students with a passion for the arts and for whom the arts are a guiding force and a form of self-expression.

Ryan and Collin Petitte Memorial Scholarship for seniors who have interest in pursuing careers in wildlife conservation, environmental resource management or economics.

Woman’s Opportunity Scholarship Fund for female, first-generation college students (neither parent may have attended either a two- or four-year college or university), with the desire to serve their community.

David Joseph Talamo Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund for students who have a love of family, a sense of humor, and a history of participation in organized sports.

Jean Cannon Memorial Scholarship Fund for seniors pursuing a career that focuses on improving the lives of women and children.

Keffeler Family Medical Scholarship Fund for seniors pursuing a career in the medical and/or healthcare field and have the intention of working in Mendocino County.

Lucinda Vineyards Scholarship Fund for seniors who plan to attend a University of California or a California State Polytechnic undergraduate institution.

Paul and Linda Shimmin Scholarship Fund for seniors who have excelled at athletics as evidenced by multi-sport or single sport year-round participation.

Ukiah High School Class of 1960 for students who have demonstrated a commitment to public service and helping others.

Viola L. Allen & Oscar A. Allen Scholarship Fund for female students with serious interest in pursuing careers in the healthcare field.

Warren “Ed” Brown Scholarship Fund for seniors interested in pursuing careers in mathematics, physics, or engineering.

William Bittenbender Scholarship Fund for students who demonstrate focus and determination and have clear career goals leading to employment.

The Jonathan Family Scholarship Fund for seniors who plan to pursue studies in music, art, architecture, building construction and/or design.

California Retired Teachers Association Division 55 Bessie Scott Scholarship Fund for seniors who plan to study education.

California Retired Teachers Association Division 55 Hilmer Finne Scholarship Fund for seniors who plan to study music.

Chris P. Lo Pinto Memorial Scholarship Fund for students pursuing education that will lead to a career in law enforcement and related fields.

Scholarship Fund for female seniors who plan to pursue a career in a STEM field.

Hammond Trust Emergency Services Scholarship Fund for seniors who plan to pursue a career as a paid or volunteer EMT, paramedic, or firefighter.

Jesse Pittman Memorial Scholarship Fund for seniors who demonstrate grit and a desire to answer the call to service and make a difference.

Mendocino Agricultural Families’ Scholarship Fund for children of agricultural workers (including the wine, ranching, farming, and dairy industries).

Marge Pardini Philanthropy Scholarship Fund for seniors who demonstrate a high level of community involvement.

Nash Bartolomie Industrial Arts Scholarship Fund for seniors or graduates interested in pursuing a technical degree in the industrial arts, including construction, welding and related fields.

Native American Scholarship Fund for seniors or graduates who are of Native American descent with the desire to improve their personal circumstances and benefit Native American communities.

Pasternak Family Healthcare Scholarship Fund for seniors and graduates who are pursuing a career in the dental or physical therapy fields and have the intention of working in Mendocino County.

Skye Scholarship Fund for seniors with a sense of altruism and desire to make the world a better place.

Walter Camp STEM Scholarship Fund for seniors other than Ukiah High who plan to pursue a career in a STEM field.
