Rest in peace, Ron

-

Rack ‘em up

Rest in peace, Ron Luzzi, a man among men from probably the moment he was born, has passed on. If you ever witnessed personal magnetism, you would have recognized it in Ronny. Big? Yep. Lovable? Yep. Dangerous as hell? Oh yeah, especially if you were the fool upsetting the “ladies.” Ron had a smile that would melt a glacier because it was so genuine. When displeased though, it was red lights and sirens if he was looking at you, especially if you didn’t have a good answer. But the old days of having to toss men to and fro are mostly gone now, and men like our Ronnie, who did some of that tossing, are mostly gone now too.

Celebration of Life for Jesse Hackett 1965-2022. Harbor Lite Lodge, upstairs event room, on April 15 2023 at 1:00 pm. RSVP (707) 813-9129.

Welcome Inn’s team #1 hosted Golden West Saloon team #1 for a Tuesday night match. The teams were tied throughout the match. Welcome Inn did win in the end but had to play each game carefully to avoid a loss. Golden West Saloon teams are both great teams to play a match with and this night was no different. We got along from start to finish, although Captain “Greg” had to leave just a tad early due to a 4:00 am on-duty time for the next morning, further proof of the dedication of Fort Bragg Pool league members as they try to balance their work life and their love of Pocket Pool.

My little buddy Grady, who would hang out as

J.B. and I played rack after rack of some pool game or another, suddenly became gravely ill and did not survive. I’m saddened, I was one of those that basked in his grinning face and wagging tail and can attest to his sweet and gentle nature. We had dogs and drivers coming from a few different towns to play pool and Grady let them all visit without a complaint. I’m sure had we talked, we would have agreed to like 8-ball, but J.B. prefers 9-ball, and so it wasn’t brought up, because although nice to me, he was always, first and last, and forever more Cindy, and John’s good dog, Grady.

HOTEL AND BAR, OR WELCOME INN >> all maintain a schedule of Fort Bragg Pool League players and teams. Look to the list for someone you might know and find where they are playing. You might join a team, make new friends, or just watch 8-ball games unfold. The League plays Tuesday at 7 pm ending before 10 pm. Tournaments, if held, are posted near pool tables anyone can enter.

CUE TIP >> Have you heard someone explain how they can play any ball, but hate straight-in shots because they miss them? Well, true, they may end by saying only that they hate them, without revealing that it is because they miss them. Hmm, actually if you practice a straight stroke you might not have a problem with straight shots.

You might dismiss the importance given by some to practice a straight shot as unnecessary. Not so, if you stop and realize that every single ball played, except English-induced curve shots, such as Masse shots, are straight shots. To bank or cut a ball you still play a straight shot. If you want to play better on all pool shots practice a long, cross-corner straight-in shot. Contact me at mcbohanon@gmail.com.
