Rest in peace, Jessy

Rack ‘em up:

A steady rain fell as Tuesday night pool league got underway. Lightning and thunder shook the ground and rattled windows. Time for pool league, a raging storm is nothing! Or maybe, “we came to play in a pool league, and nothing can stop us! Well, maybe I exaggerate. Although it is now a fact, nearly every single League player showed up to play for their team. Storm or not.

Perla Figueroa is the new Captain of Milano Hotel and Bar Team # 2 and is doing a great job. The team gets along well with each other and with opposing teams. Mutual respect seems to be in their DNA as she leads the team. Sharon Morris plays for Milano’s

Team #2 and drew Joshua House of Welcome Inn’s Team # 1 as the opponent. Suddenly there was a holler, “you better be nice to my granny.” Oh, no, please don’t let it be true, yet it was. Somehow Jacob Tupper (the hollerin’ child in this case) had bribed his way onto Milano’s Team # 2.

Jacob is also our local

Disc Golf Champion, but the sport, he says, “is too slow for Granny.” Still, the night’s highlight remains, Jacob hollering how good friend Joshua House best be nice to his Granny or else!

Josh, the top shooter of Welcome Inn Team # 1, went on to win the pool game, and honestly, we all were smiling, but none more than Sharon and Jacob. It was a fun night, but watching Sharon and Jacob playing for Milano’s # 2 Team made it even better.

R.I.P.

JESSY ROMO. JESSY, A WELCOME INN TEAM # 1 PLAYER, MADE YOU FEEL GOOD AFTER SPEAKING WITH HIM. HIS GENUINE INTEREST IN YOU ON ANY PARTICULAR DAY MADE YOU FEEL BETTER, AS HE GENERALLY WAS SMILING, POLITE, AND HAD A POSITIVE VIEW OF LIFE.

Visit Fort Bragg Pool League sponsors: Angelina’s Grille & Bar, Golden West Saloon, Milano Hotel and Bar, or Welcome Inn: all maintain a schedule of Fort Bragg Pool League players and teams. Look to the list for someone you might know and find where they are playing. You might join their team, make new friends, or watch 8-ball games as they unfold. The League plays Tuesday at 7 pm ending before 10 pm. Tournaments, if held, are posted near pool tables, and anyone can enter and play in the tournaments.

CUE TIP >> What do you do when you start to miss multiple balls you can usually make? Complain aloud that you can’t make a ball? Ignore your poor play, and hope it somehow goes away. Maybe instead, check your stance. Are your feet too close or too wide? Are you steady? Is your backhand grip on your cue in a relaxed but firm grasp? Is your arm from the elbow down pointing straight down when the cue makes contact with the cue ball? Check your aim with a few shots designed to give you feedback, like using a table-length straightin-shot. You must find where you are hitting the cue ball. Did you try to make the cue ball has left or right spin after the shot? After going through your assessment, you will know why you are missing the balls you usually make. We don’t lose abilities off and on in a pool game, and we lose focus. When you lose focus, you may also lose fundamentals, and accuracy always suffers from a lack of using proper fundamentals of pool playing. Contact me at mcbohanon@gmail. com.
