Second Saturday art openings for April 13, 2024.

Who among us has not wandered along the bluffs, looking out to the far horizon, then sat for a moment, captivated by the patterns and endless rhythm of the waves as the sea meets the land? We can't help but imagine what it would be like to fly on the wings of a bird to cross over to the odd little islands that seem to have only recently parted with the mainland. Laura Corben, featured artist for April, has turned her attention to the headlands along our coasts. She has captured some of the stormy green seas of winter as well as the range of blues on the brighter days. Grassy fields, the white calla lilies, and windblown trees contrast with cliffs and rocky shores in her latest paintings that will be up at the Artists' Co-Op of Mendocino from April 3rd through May 6th. You are invited to meet the artist on Second Saturday, April 13th. The Co-op is located at Kasten x Albion Streets in Mendocino. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and has extended hours until 7 p.m. on Second Saturday.

Partners Gallery

In April Partners is presenting an invitational show featuring four Mendocino Coast artists and teachers. In her spare abstract drawings, Solange Roberdeau expresses her love of the character of materials, including the beauty of raw ink, handmade papers, and metal. Exploring the content of a drop of coastal water, Sarah Logan creates hand-formed ceramic sculptures that resonate with her appreciation of the unseen aspects of our natural world.

Working with painted images of ocean waves and silver and gold pen drawings, Rebecca Wallace creates paintings that suggest glimpses into invisible realms, metaphysical realities, and internal landscapes. Collyn Ahrens uses stoneware and porcelain to create bust sculptures and other ceramic forms to investigate animacy and the desire to see oneself in the material.

Ahrens and Logan were both artists in residence at the Mendocino Art Center and teach ceramics at the Coast Center of Mendocino College, where Wallace also teaches. Roberdeau teaches at Art Explorers and the Ukiah campus of Mendocino College.

The Second Saturday Meet the Artists is April 13, 5-7 pm. The show runs from April 11 to May 6. Gallery hours are Thursday through Monday, 11-5 pm. The gallery is located at 45062 Ukiah St in Mendocino.
