NCGA Northern Zone Qualifier

-

With a load of golfers playing on Sunday, April 7th, in the NCGA Northern Zone Qualifier, there was no traditional Stableford game on Sunday. Dewey Turner, Jason Carmichael, Collin Fling, and Russell Roach were climbing out of the pack to move on to the next level. This is the same group that won at Little River last year. The foursome will travel to Poppy Hills and Del Monte golf courses on April 29th and 30th to compete at the next level. Dewey and Jason are familiar names in the local Zone Qualifier world, and both qualified in the recent NCGA 4-Ball match. Last year, Collin Fling and Russell Roach captured 1st place in the NCGA Little River North Valley Zone Championship Qualifier. Good luck at the next level, guys. While the rest of the crowd was busy competing in the NCGA event, Matt Howard, Phil Dunn, and Chuck Allegrini quietly had their own competition. With a sprinkling of birdies across the scorecard, Phil edged out Matt and Chuck with one stroke. Phil finished with a 76 while Matt and Chuck tied, scoring 77.

Have you ever heard of Korfball? Neither have I. Maybe you have. My nineyear-old New Zealand, Mabel, plays in a large Korfball tournament on Monday in New Zealand. Whether it is being played at the school level or the professional level, Korfball consists of eight players per team. Four of the team players are always women, and four are always men. It can be played on an indoor or outdoor court. At either end of the court is a pole 11.6 feet high, with a plastic hoop and no net. The ball is around the size of a soccer ball. There is no dribbling, just passing; you cannot run with the ball. You can swivel around if you keep your pivot foot planted. Each basket is worth one point. The team that scores the most points wins, unlike golf, where the team that scores the most minor points wins.

Today, Monday, April 8th, Larry and Janie England are on their way to Florida to begin an elevenday Caribbean ship cruise. The ship will be making five Caribbean Island stops. Last Sunday Larry played a round at the Little River Course, and next Saturday, Larry will play a round on a course on the Caribbean Island named Aruba. Watch out for snakes in the rough Larry.
