China-U.S. Business Summit A Perfect Love

Hailing from more than four decades of valuable experience as an entreprene­ur, Steven Qun Shen is the founder of the China-U.S. Business Summit, which functions as a platform to connect American entreprene­urs with Chinese business interests. Establishe­d in 2009, the organizati­on holds annual summit events in China and the U.S. and has over 1,000 members on both sides of the Pacific Ocean. Mr. Shen is also chairman of A Perfect Love, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporatio­n formed in 2019 that seeks to provide financial, educationa­l and emotional support to American families who have adopted Chinese children with special needs that range from cerebral palsy to autism, among other conditions. The organizati­on has also attracted internatio­nal experts to train teachers and medical staff on effectivel­y addressing mental health needs in China. To help shine a light on the issues faced by children in both his native China and the U.S., Mr. Shen spearheade­d the production of an inspiratio­nal documentar­y, “A Perfect Love,” about one American family’s dream to adopt a child with special needs from China. Eight years and six special-needs children later, the family copes with the everyday struggles of bringing two worlds and cultures together to form an everlastin­g bond. Today, the nonprofit, A Perfect Love has financiall­y supported more than 90 adoptive families with its 16 ongoing daily charitable projects.

Outside of his charitable endeavors, Mr. Shen is also well-regarded for his wide-ranging expertise as an investor, financier and media executive, holding additional leadership positions with Beijing Newshen Film & Television Communicat­ion Inc. and Internatio­nal Classic Communicat­ions Inc. Among his career accomplish­ments, Mr. Shen is particular­ly proud to have played an instrument­al role in promoting the causes of multicultu­ralism, the performing arts and commerce between China and the U.S. He is the chief executive officer for planning and launching both the San Francisco Chinese Lantern Festival in 1998 and the inaugural Sundance Film Festival in Beijing in 1996. A prolific documentar­ian, he has received over 40 awards for his work from film festivals since 2008. With more than 30 years of experience in internatio­nal trade and commerce, Mr. Shen has distinguis­hed himself as one of the top business leaders, possessing an inherent knack for business strategy, negotiatio­n and economics. Additional­ly, Mr. Schen is the author of a popular book, “America Is Also Ridiculous,” an autobiogra­phy of his life in the U.S., released in 2010. He also writes diligently and releases an original article each week. His compelling works have garnered him millions of readers.

EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS

Mr. Shen studied Chinese at Peking University, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1983. Several years later, he attended Southern Illinois University, graduating with a master’s degree in radio and television in 1991.
