Biden calls India an ‘indispensable partner’
PRESIDENT Joe Biden on Sunday (14) congratulated India on 75 years of independence and said the US and India were ‘indispensable partners' that would continue to work together to address global challenges in the years ahead.
‘The US joins the people of India to honor its democratic journey, guided by Mahatma Gandhi's enduring message of truth and non-violence,' Biden said in a statement, referring to the leader of India's independence movement.

Strategic Partnership is grounded in our shared commitment to the rule of law and the promotion of human freedom and dignity,' Biden said.
Biden also said his country's Indian-American community had made the US a more innovative, inclusive, and stronger nation.
In a separate statement, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken greeted the people of India as they celebrated 75 years of independence on August 15.
‘On this important day, we reflect on the democratic values that we share, and we honour the people of India who are, together, building an even brighter future,' he said.
‘This year is especially meaningful for our two nations as we celebrate a milestone: 75 years of diplomatic relations. Our strategic partnership touches everything from climate to trade to our vibrant people-to-people ties. I am confident that, as two great democracies, our part- nership will continue to contribute to the security and prosperity of our people and the global good. Happy Independence Day, India!' Blinken said.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates congratulated prime minister Narendra
Modi for prioritising healthcare and digital transformation while spearheading India's development.
‘India's progress in these sectors is inspiring and we are fortunate to partner in this journey. #AmritMahotsav,' Gates tweeted.
Indian-American astronaut Raja Chari also greeted India from International Space Station.
‘On Independence eve I'm reminded of Indian diaspora that I could see from @Space_Station where my father's home town of Hyderabad shines bright,' he tweeted.
