His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj
PRAMUKH Swami Maharaj was loved and respected as one of the world’s great spiritual leaders. He travelled throughout the world, dedicating his life to the well-being of others, visiting more than 250,000 homes in 17,000 villages and cities in more than 50 countries, and personally counselling and comforting more than 810,000 people. He created over 1,100 Hindu mandirs internationally and ordained more than 900 youths into the monastic order to serve society and strive spiritually.
Driven by his genuine care and compassion for humanity, he inspired many international projects of public service and spiritual uplift, and is remembered as a “people’s guru”, reaching out to all, irrespective of age, class, color or creed.
His innate humility, universal wisdom and striking simplicity transformed the lives of millions and touched several religious and national leaders. But most important of all was his quiet, undisturbed love for God, endowing him as an ambassador of love, peace and harmony in the world.
Throughout his entire life, Pramukh Swami Maharaj has untiringly remained in the service of society. In times of adversity, he has assisted society, and in times of peace he has strengthened society. His every moment is lived for others, without distinctions of caste, nationality or faith. Distinguished world leaders and dignitaries have praised Swamishri’s outstanding contributions.
The Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) is a socio-spiritual Hindu organization with its roots in the Vedas. It was revealed by Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830) in the late 18th century and established in 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj (1865-1951). Founded on the pillars of practical spirituality, the BAPS reaches out far and wide to address the spiritual, moral and social challenges and issues we face in our world. Its strength lies in the purity of its nature and purpose.
BAPS strives to care for the world by caring for societies, families and individuals. Its universal work through a worldwide network of over 3,850 centers has received many national and international awards and affiliation with the United Nations.
