Record Indian students to study in US

A record 200,000 Indian students chose the US to pursue higher education, in the 2021-22 academic year, according to a report, a 19 percent increase over the previous year.

Indian students now make up nearly 21 percnt of the over one million foreign students studying in the US.

In 2012-13, there were 96,654 Indian students in higher education in the US, noted the report published by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in partnership with the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

In 2021-22, more than double that number - 1,99,182 - of Indian students were pursuing higher education in the US, as against 1,67,582 in 2020-21, according to the report.

In 2021-22, China and India collectively accounted for 52 percent of all international students in the US.

China showed a drop of 9 percent in the latest round, with the number standing at 2,90,086 in 2021-22.
