-

THE Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday (1) confirmed that the auction for the 2023 edition of the annual Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament will be held in Kochi in the southern state of Kerala on December 23.

Nearly 1,000 (991 to be precise) players, including 714 Indians and 277 foreign players, have registered themselves for the cash-rich tournament’s auction. The upcoming season will witness 10 teams in action, as it was in the 2022 edition.

Most overseas players who have registered for the auction are from Australia - 57, followed by South Africa (52), West Indies (33), and England (31).

Nineteen capped cricketers from India have registered for the occasion.

The list came out weeks after the 10 franchises submitted their list of released and retained players.

Gujarat Titans, who made their debut in the 2022 edition, lifted the trophy under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma have won the tournament, which started in 2008, most number of times - five.
