The history of barrettes

According to fashion historians, hair clips are ancient, meaning they’ve been around for thousands of years. Experts can’t put an exact date on when clips were first invented. However, they say people used to make them out of natural materials, like bones and sticks, during prehistoric times and metals during the Bronze Age. The more decorative hair barrettes that you see today are an upgrade on those original designs, made from plastics and metals that started being mass-produced in the United States in the mid-19th century. And this year, they’re more popular — and cuter — than ever!
