LOVELORN Melanie Griffith and Sean Penn have known each other for years, but now they’re flirting openly — and sources are blabbing a sizzling romance is in the cards. The Working Girl actress and sexy Sean got thisclose while helping Melanie’s actress-daughter Dakota Johnson celebrate her 29th birthday on Oct. 4. The hunk and the movie siren chatted away as if no one else were there, sources dish.
“Sean knows how to charm the ladies, and Melanie has definitely fallen under his spell,” says an insider. “She hasn’t been in a long-term relationship since her divorce from Antonio Banderas three years ago — so it’s about time she had some fun.”
Melanie, 61, reportedly had hopes of getting back together with Banderas, but they were crushed when the Zorro stud paired off with Dutch financial expert Nicole
Kimpel, 38, last year. But the good news is Melanie’s finally on the mend after having a cancerous tumor cut out of her nose.
Meanwhile, Sean, 58, also wanted to get hitched, sources say. He was looking to marry 26-year-old Leila George, who was his main squeeze since being dumped by Charlize Theron.
But now things are heating up with his longtime crush Melanie — and it could be a match made in heaven.
“He’s just the kind of guy Melanie loves — articulate and extremely virile,” notes the insider. “He’s had a crush on Melanie since Working Girl and thinks she’s so cute. Everyone says they make a perfect couple and have so much in common.
“They are always bumping into each other at the homes of family and friends, and manage to sneak off in a corner to talk and flirt.
“She’s more age appropriate than the women he usually dates. There’s a lot of chemistry there.”
