DADDY’S LITTLE GIRL!

-

HOMESPUN movie hero GARY COOPER charmed fans in silentera Westerns before making it big in 1929 with his first talkie, The Virginian. But exhausted and depressed by his sudden fame, he left the limelight behind two years later. He lived in Algiers and Rome, before returning to Hollywood in 1932 to snag a lucrative contract with Paramount Pictures — and raise his pet chimpanzee, Toluca, to be the perfect little lady! Cooper hooked up with Toluca during an African safari and parted ways with the primate when her temper became dangerous as she aged. Coop, who died of cancer in 1961 — six days after this 60th birthday — provided for Toluca until she met her end.
