Songbird rushes Carl to hospital after he collapses in living room
COUNTRY queen Dolly Parton rushed dazed and fragile hubby Carl Dean to the hospital — terrified the 76-year-old was dying after he suddenly collapsed in their Nashville mansion’s living room as she was leaving for a Hollywood awards show!
Amazingly, the petite fivefoot, 115-pound songbird managed to load the stricken six-footer — who suffers from heart problems — into the car and raced off without even taking the time to call an ambulance or 9ll, sources say.
Once at a nearby medical facility, Carl was treated by doctors and eventually allowed to return home, much to Dolly’s relief. But sources say the 9 to 5 blond bombshell is frightened her man’s poor health will soon spell the end of their 52-year marriage, sources say.
For now, Dolly is putting on a brave face. But she blames herself for Carl’s health woes, say insiders.
“Dolly won’t even let on to most of her friends on how sick Carl really is,” a friend dishes.
“He thankfully was able to check out of the hospital after getting a workup, but doctors warned him he could face more episodes of fainting and he was lucky someone was at home with him this time.
“Carl is on medications for his heart and low blood pressure — but there comes a point at his age and with his health history when the medicine has diminishing effectiveness. That’s what scares Dolly to death — and Carl, too.”
Spiritual Dolly is using the power of prayer as she tries to help Carl through his medical crisis, friends say.
“Dolly and Carl go to a little chapel on the grounds of their estate in Tennessee and do a lot of praying,” says the pal. “Dolly especially prays Carl’s health will hold up to the point where she can begin to make up for all the years she was away from him so often. Sometimes she cries.
“She knows Carl is scared. He’s been healthy as an ox for most of his life. Dolly hopes he can just put himself in the hands of the Lord and it will see them through.”
The horrifying medical crisis forced Dolly to cancel her trip to L.A., where she and songwriting partner Linda Perry were nominated for Best Original Song — Girl in the Movies — for the Netflix movie Dumplin’ at the Jan. 6 Golden Globes.
Now, she so terrified of
losing Carl, she’s thinking about putting her career on the back-burner, say sources.
“Dolly is scared to leave Carl home alone,” the friend says. “All of her money, all of her success, doesn’t mean anything to her without Carl.”
